House No. 19 An Act to establish the Boston and Taunton Rail Road Company, 1831. Fourteen men were incorporated as the Boston and Taunton Rail Road Company with 10,000 shares and the usual rights and responsibilities to locate and construct the railroad from Boston to Taunton and possibly on to Providence. The corporation could take land, but it had to pay for it, and could charge a toll, but after ten years, the Legislature might tinker with the amount. The corporation had to have an annual meeting and generate an annual report. The rail road had to be completed by 1836.
