SEE ALSO 52161 House No. 70 On March 2, 1831, the Senate Committee asked to consider how to use the money soon to come from the Massachusetts claim
for militia services, suggested one option was to divide it among the various towns after the bills had been paid, but the Committee preferred
investing it in some safe stock or government securities. An Act respecting the Massachusetts claim for militia services, 1831. It was the duty of the
Treasurer to invest any money that comes as a result of the Massachusetts claim. This passed the Senate on March 8, 1831. On March 11, 1831, the House
offered an amendment specifically saying Maine was to receive its share first and then the Treasurer would invest the remainder. (Digitized from a
