House. Comm. on Railways and Canals. Act to establish the Boston and Worcester Rail Road Corporation, 1831
House No. 65 The Committee on Railways and Canals reported: An Act to establish the Boston & Worcester Rail Road Corporation, 1831. Seven men were
incorporated as the Boston & Worcester Rail Road Corporation with the usual authorities and obligations. The capital stock could be from $300,000 to
$450,000, with one third subscribed by the Commonwealth, using a formula. Stock sold to the public would be $100/share. The group was to locate and
construct the rail road from Boston to Worcester. The group had the power of eminent domain if necessary, but all costs and damages had to be paid by
the company. There were directions for raising funds, having meetings, and assessing shares. Toll authority was granted. After four years, there was
a formula for the Commonwealth to get some of the profits. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Massachusetts State
Library).
