House No. 61 A Select Committee of seven men reported An Act respecting arrest and imprisonment for debt and attachments of personal property, 1831. A plaintiff had to swear an oath before a judge to get a plaintiff arrested. There was a list of the amount of a debt and its bail amount. A debtor, especially a female, could take the Poor Debtor's Oath to either leave jail or never go there. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Massachusetts State Library).
