traveling salesmen had to be licensed and the fees were high, depending on the mode of transport. If someone worked without a license, the fine was more
than $100. Any citizen could detain an unlicensed traveler. The rules did not apply to sellers of some agricultural products and textiles. A person
who made and sold tinware or pewterware had a special license. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Massachusetts State
