|
|
House No. 36 A Select Committee of five men reported An Act to enable aliens to purchase and hold real estate within the Commonwealth in certain cases, 1831. Any person not a citizen could purchase, hold, convey and devise by will land, buildings, etc., provided such person was always resident in the Commonwealth. Such people were liable to any and all taxes. An alien could receive by descent or devise, land, etc. from a citizen parent. If an alien died intestate, the usual procedure was followed. However, such people had no political rights. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Massachusetts State Library).
