SEE ALSO 51883 House No. 25 The Committee on Manufactures reported An Act providing for the inspection of sole leather, 1831. The Governor was to
appoint two or more inspectors in Boston and one or more in at least eight other towns. The men were to serve for three years and the text of their
oath was included. All sole leather sold in Massachusetts had to be inspected. The inspector could charge 2c per side of leather plus travel in some
cases, but he had to provide his own scales and embosser. There was a list of grades of leather and penalties for counterfeit grading. The inspector
had to be mindful of potential weight loss by drying of the product. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Massachusetts
