Description and Holding Information
House. Comm. on the Judiciary. Act in addition to acts against hawkers … 1831
SEE ALSO 51942 House No. 21 The Committee on the Judiciary reported An Act in addition to the several acts against hawkers, pedlars, and petty
chapmen, 1831. The itinerant sellers had to have a license from their town of residence and write "License" on their carts. A complaint against one
would generate a warrant, putting all the pedlar's property into custody. If the person could not afford $50 bail, he went to jail until the next court
session. If he were convicted, his property was sold, but if he were not, he could have his property back. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title
originally held by the Massachusetts State Library).
