Joint Comm. to Provide a Fire-proof Records Room. Report, 1831
|

Senate No. 24 A Committee considered the construction of a fireproof space for the state's records. In February 1831, it sent down a report. The
consultants said the State House itself was completely inappropriate for such a structure and recommended a purpose built addition to the building. A
plan and estimate were said to be included, but such was not in this copy. Resolved: The Governor was authorized to build an extension on the State

Ordered, that Messrs. Newton of Worcester, Mann of Dedham, Rantoul of Beverly, with such as the Senate may join, be a committee to inquire into and report upon the expediency of providing a fire proof room for the safe keeping of the records and papers of the Commonwealth, and that they be directed to report to the next session of this Legislature : that they report a plan and estimate of expenses.
