Senate No. 8 The Committee on Mercantile Affairs and Insurance met to study the laws for packing and inspecting pickled fish. On January 11, 1831,
they offered An Act in addition to the several acts regulating the inspection of pickled fish, 1831. The act seemed to apply to mackerel. The
inspectors were to examine 25 pound and 50 pound casks as they did other containers. Two new acceptable brands were listed, as were the inspectors' fees
for service, and the grades of fish. The inspectors were not liable for damage to the fish after six months from inspection. (Digitized from a
