SEE ALSO 52170 Senate No. 7 The public had found a way around the duty on auction sales, so the Legislature tried again. An Act in further addition to an act imposing a duty on sales at auction, 1831. From an unstated date, any lease offered at auction would pay an unstated amount per $100 of value. There was a formula based on the length of the lease. Each time the lease was sold, the duty applied. When a contract for the delivery of goods was put out, there would be duty on its sale. The act tried to account for every type of transaction to foil scoff-laws. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Massachusetts State Library).
