H.R. No. 23 On January 24, 1828, the Committee on Education tendered its response to petitions, etc. about a new education law. It did not see the
need to amend the law before it even had been tried. A Standing Committee would select the textbooks for all schools in an attempt to have uniformity
in instruction. The Committee would also examine teachers and visit schools. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the

The Committee on Education, to whom were referred certain orders, petition, and memorials concerning the act of the last legislature, making provision for the instruction of youth, have considered the same, and are of opinion, that no amendment to that act is called for by the circumstances presented in the aforesaid orders, petitions, and memorials. The provision for a high school, in towns containing five hundred families, has been the subject of distinct consideration, and will be embraced in a subsequent report ... .
