Joint Comm. on the Town of New-Bedford Petition. Report, 1828

Senate No. 12 New Bedford and Dartmouth petitioned to be half shire towns. This was vigorously opposed by ten other localities. There followed
several pages of statistics of population, financial health, distance between towns, how many lawsuits were filed and where, and who had better roads.
From this testimony came An Act establishing an additional term of the Supreme Judicial Court for the County of Bristol and for altering the places of
holding two of the terms of the Court of Common Pleas in said County, 1828. An additional term of the Supreme Judicial Court was to be held each year
in New Bedford and the two terms of the Court of Common Pleas were moved from Taunton to New Bedford. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title
