H.R. No. 83 The Committee appointed to memorialize Thomas Jefferson submitted its report on March 10, 1827. Mr. Jefferson left his family in straitened circumstances and other states had committed to send considerable sums to the heirs. The Committee recommended a gift of $10,000 realized from a tax of 1/10 of 1% on the capital stock of new corporations and a $10 fee on name changes.
