SEE ALSO 51838, 51853, 51887 H.R. No 64 On February 27, 1827, the Special Committee that looked at the Hampshire and Hampden Canal bill also looked
at the act from Vermont about improving navigation on the Connecticut River and offered a Report in the form of an amendment. The directors of the
canal could only use local water for the canal, nothing else. No toll could be charged until the canal was completed to the north state line. Two
sections of the original act, not copied here, were to have no effect. The company could not take land until it had been paid for. There always had to
be a connection to the Connecticut River at Northampton. The Hampshire Court of Sessions could regulate the toll in their county as long as it was not
