H.R. No. 41 On January 8, 1827, the House Finance Committee reported in response to an order of June 19, 1826 to study raising the license fee for retail establishments and taverns. The Committee obtained licensing dat from each county and created a chart. The chart included hypothetical license prices for comparison with the existing situation. The Committee recommended a minimum fee of $10. On p. 5, it presented a bill. An Act in addition to the several acts for the due regulation of licensed houses, 1827. Instead of current flat fees for licenses, the Committee suggested the business pay in proportion to the amount of business done in a year: less than $100, pay $10, between $100-700, pay $15, etc. There were fines for offenses. $4.00 of each fee was to go to the county where the business was conducted.
