H.R. No. 34 An abstract of the school reports for March 1826 was submitted to the House on January 29, 1827. It listed the number of Towns in the
Commonwealth, told how many had reported, said there were over 1700 school districts with over 117,000 school age children. There were 953 academies
and private schools with 25,083 students. The state harbored 513 illiterate children. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by
the Massachusetts State Library).
