House. Act regulating pilotage into the Vineyard Sound … 1827
H.R. No. 12 An Act to regulate pilotage into the Vineyard Sound and into New Bedford and Fairhaven, 1827. The Governor was to nominate Wardens for
each port who would grant warrants to a suitable number of pilots, who had to be bonded, and to regulate the size and quality of pilot boats. Pilots
were to board and take charge of foreign ships and take them to the requested wharf. A pilot would also take charge of an outbound vessel. There
were sections devoted to pilot fees, mostly based on the size of the ship. There were also regulations for non-local pilots. Fishing vessels and
coasting vessels were not required to have a pilot. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Massachusetts State Library).
