SEE ALSO 51779, 51780 On June 5, 1826, a House committee considered the Senate version of the act to repeal the usury act basically did not want to
extend it backwards--if a contract were made prior to the passage of the act, whatever interest rate was in that contract would be lawful. After three
readings, the bill passed the House on June 16, 1826.(Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Massachusetts State Library).

Slocum, of D., Simpson, of B., Thayer, of U., Barnard, of N., Whipple of Charlestown, be a committee to consider the expediency of repealing an act passed March 4, 1826, entitled "An act to establish the rate of interest and to restrain the taking of excessive usury," and of reviving an act passed March 16, 1784 entitled "An act for restraining the taking of excessive usury."
