|
An act to incorporate the New England Society for the Promotion of Manufactures and the Mechanic Arts, 1826. Four men were named to be the initial members of the Society, which had the usual duties and responsibilities of a corporation. It could own real estate to an annual value of $6,000. The Society was to promote and encourage domestic production of goods by holding exhibitions, offering prizes for the best or newest, introducing new inventions, collecting models of inventions, and communicating news to the public. The Legislature could visit them and receive reports. The Society could hold two sales per year of domestically produced goods and the vendors were free of sales tax.
