Description and Holding Information
General Court. Act amending an act for laying out highways, 1826 [version 1]
Addition to an act directing the method of laying out highways, 1826 [version 1] All but three Counties were to appoint five Commissioners of
Highways; the other three Counties would only have three Commissioners. Commissioners were to receive per diem and travel costs. Residents could petition the
Commissioners for new roads or alterations to existing roads. The Commissioners would determine what should be done and propose plans to the Court
of Sessions. If the plans were approved, money would be allotted for the work and the Commissioners would supervise construction. The Commissioners
could also advise their County to purchase existing toll roads or bridges. The County was responsible for land purchase and any damage done construction.
