Senate. Comm. on the Judiciary. Act for protection of merchants' property, 1826
The Senate Committee on the Judiciary presented an Act for Protection of Merchants' Property for consideration on February 17, 1826. A merchant was
defined and goods were defined. Every movement or transaction involving a merchant's goods needed to be documented so ownership could be proved,
especially when goods were consigned to an agent or factor. Should such person sell the goods with intent to defraud the real owner, it was a
misdemeanor. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally held by the Massachusetts State Library).
Title:   The Committee on the Judiciary, who were directed to enquire into the expediency of making any alteration in the law in relation to merchants and factors, have had the subject under consideration, and ask leave to report a bill, which is herewith submitted.
