House. Comm. on the Militia. Report, 1825

On June 16, 1825, the Committee on the Militia issued a report, eulogizing the late Governor who had fought so hard for reimbursement of militia
expenses during the war of 1812. It presented an Act. If a ranking officer learned of a vacancy in the command ranks, he was to search for a replacement
immediately. All companies had to maintain lists of active and eligible militia men and notify them of training and other events. There were
penalties for those who refused to serve. Other ranks, especially the company clerk, were to notify an officer if there was dereliction of duty. A fully
equipped and serving militia man was exempt from the poll tax for the following year. Militia men could not be imprisoned for debt. The Judge-Advocate
was to maintain the records of office. The rules for courts-martial were included. The Adjutant was to issue supplies and maintain records of their use.
Each town was to supply one quarter pound of good powder made into cartridges for the use of the local militia. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of
