House. Comm. of Finance. Report on Yarmouth saltworks taxation, 1825
|

On January 29, 1825, the House Committee on Finance responded to a petition from the citizens of Yarmouth. They wanted to be able to tax their salt
works. The Committee reviewed the current tax exemptions. Salt works and other manufacturing enterprises were generally exempt, as were college
personnel and ministers. The Committee resolved to henceforth allow sheep, salt works and textile machinery to be taxed. Professors, students, ministers,
and teachers would be taxed if they had an estate over $5,000. There were some wordsmithing amendments to the resolve. (Digitized from a microfilm
