Joint Comm. on Agricultural Societies. Report on the New England Farmer, 1825
|

On January 15, 1825, three men in the House were named to consider sending a subscription to the American Farmer to the state's agricultural
societies. On January 17, the Senate concurred. On February 5, 1825, the Committee reported. It had examined the magazine and found it to be a weekly with
an annual index and very useful to farmers. Resolved, since the General Court had supported the diffusion of agricultural knowledge in the past by
providing money to the societies, the Secretary of State would buy five hundred bound copies of the American Farmer each August and apportion them to the
societies based on the amount of grant money given to each in the past. Each society has to certify that they kept one copy for the society and gave

Ordered, That Messrs. McKay, of Pittsfield, Lyman, Northampton, Lincoln, Worcester, with such as the Hon. Senate may join, be a Committee to consider the expediency of furnishing the Agricultural Societies within this Commonwealth, with copies of the New England Farmer, with leave to report by Bill, or otherwise.
