February 24, 1870 communication from Robert E. Lee to Governor Gilbert C. Walker regarding a survey of the area near the boundary line between North Carolina and Virginia, conducted by Professor Peirce, superintendent of the coast survey. Lee concluded that, based on the survey, Virginia had lost property to both Tennessee and North Carolina; the latitude and longitude were incorrect.
