House. Comm. on Secret Societies. Minority report, 1856
|
|
1856 Minority report of the committee on Secret Societies which was part of the governor's message. The governor was concerned about the division of society into classes or clans and warned of a war of races, and particularly concerned with the American Party (also called the "Know Nothing" party). The minority was concerned after discussion, given the party's prejudiced stance against Catholics and others. Of note, the governor's response to the committee would have attached as an appendix. (Digitized from a microfilm copy of titles originally held by the Library of Congress).
