1774-06-20, Day of fasting and penance, June 23rd for the colonists in Boston

June 20, 1774 proclamation issued by Rhode Island Gov. Joseph Wanton in response to the British Parliament's act blocking the port of Boston. Wanton established June 30th as a day of prayer, supplication, and fasting by his people so that King George III would forgive Boston and list the closure.
