November 26,, 1723 ordinance issued by New York Gov. William Burnet and Council, regulating and establishing the fees to be taken for various actions and duties in the the Province of New Jersey. At the end of the delineated fees, there was a provision penalizing those that exceeded the stated fees. An ordinance for regulating & establishing fees within this his Majesty's province of New-Jersey : by his Excellency William Burnet, Esq ; captain general and governour in chief of the provinces of New-Jersey, New-York, and territories depending thereon in America, and vice-admiral of the same, &c. this 26th day of November, in the tenth year of the reign of our Sovereign Lord George, by the grace of God, of Great Britain, France and Ireland, King, Defender of the Faith, &c. annoq ; Domini one thousand seven hundred and twenty three.
