Cole, Claims of Sovereignty over the Antarctic, 1958
Thesis from the Judge Advocate General's School entitled "Claims of Sovereignty over the Antarctic." Comm. Enser W. Cole, United States Navy,
submitted the thesis in 1958. This paper studies the conflicting assertions of sovereignty over the Antarctic regions, including their juridical validity
and effect of the weather stations constructions, the continuity of the continental shelf of contiguity of land masses, and the evaluation of the
United States' policy toward that region. Of note, the author was appointed in 1990 as CEO of the Trans-Alaska Pipeline Liability Fund, supervising for
ten years the collection of millions of dollars of oil company assessments and the eventual payment by the Fund of the costs of cleaning up the EXXON
Valdez oil spill.
