Thesis from the Judge Advocate General's Course entitled "Political Activity of Servicemen: the 'Military Hatch Act' and the First Amendment."
Captain George W. Clarke, United States Army submitted the thesis in April 1973. This paper noted that political activity by members of the armed forces
which is severely limited by military regulations. It then examined the extent to which the First Amendment applied to servicemen; the authority for
promulgating those regulations; and the underlying reasons asserted to justify the restrictions.
