Thesis from the Judge Advocate General's School entitled "Presentencing Procedure in Courts-Martial." Capt. William J. Chilcoat, United States Army,
submitted the thesis in April 1959. This paper examined the the legal principles and procedures applicable to the presentation of information to a
court-martial for sentencing purposes. The author discussed whether the rules of evidence might be relaxed for this purpose, the extent to which the
prosecution may rebut matter contained in an unsworn statement of the accused, and the nature of matter which may be offered in mitigation or
extenuation and in aggravation of an offense.
