Koberg, 1494. (Malleus Maleficarum is Latin for “The Hammer of Witches,” or in German “Hexenhammer.” It was was first published in Germany in 1487. Kramer and Sprenger were priests of the Dominican Order who served as inquisitors for the Catholic Church. This seminal work served as a handbook for inquisitors in the flurry of witchcraft trials that riled Late Medieval Europe. Its purpose was to challenge all arguments gainst the existence of witchcraft and to instruct magistrates on how to indentify, interrgate and convict witches. It is also one of the formative works in the development of criminl procedure in European law. The description is taken from the colophon.
