Cave, Encouragement to Slavery/Slave Trade by 1846 Sugar Bill, 1849
A few words on the encouragement given to slavery and the slave trade by recent measures, and chiefly by the sugar bill of 1846: by Stephen Cave,
34p, London? John Murray, 1849. (A TOC starts on the second page following the title page. Lacks index. This is a general treatise on the evils of
slavery, with many examples of man’s inhumanity to man. Its underlying argument is in support of those abolitionists in England who advocated the boycotting
of sugar imports as one way to resist the slavery system. Sir Stephen Cave, 1820-1880, was a British lawyer and Conservative M.P. from 1859-1880.
Notable offices held were Pay-Master General, 1866-68, Vice-President of the Board of Trade, 1866-67, and Judge Advocate General, 1874-75. The print text
of this title was scanned from Lincoln’s Inn Library pamphlet volume MP 85.)
