Bannister, S., 1870b, Humane Policy in the Colonies & India
Humane policy in the colonies and India; Or, the free, just and integral unions of coloured people with our people: 2nd ed., by Saxe Bannister,
(2)+6-31p, Brighton, W.J.Smith, 1870. (Lacks TOC & index. For more on Bannister, see the extensive notes on his title Memoir on the Colonization of Natal,
1839, elsewhere on this site. They detail how Bannister, who served as the attorney general of the Colony of New South Wales from 1823 to 1826, was
dismissed from his office for “injudicious zeal” concerning the welfare of the native population. The first edition of this work was published in 1830,
shortly after his ouster from office. Bannister spent the next forty years writing on colonial affairs and pleading for a more humane treatment of the
colonial native populations. Pages 29-30 of this work contain an extensive list of his other writings. The print text of this title was scanned from
Lincoln’s Inn Library pamphlet volume MP 17.)
