for a lecture before the Royal Society of Arts in January, 1908. Keith’s thesis was considerably fleshed out later in the authoritative “Revised
Edition” of this work, published in 1912 and also offered on this site. A “Second Edition.” Issued in two volumes in 1928, is also offered on this site. A.
Berriedale Keith, 1879-1944, was a Scottish constitutional lawyer who served with high distinction in the Colonial office from 1901-14. In 1914 he
became Regius Professor of Sanscrit and Lecturer in Constitutional Law in the Universityof Edinburgh.)
