Governance, Federations & Unions in the Empire, Egerton, 1911
Federations & Unions within the British Empire: by Hugh Egerton, 302p, Oxford, Clarendon Press, 1911. (Egerton begins with a survey of the evolution
of the concept of federation in the British colonial context, particularly in North American. The study then focuses on the Canadian, Australia, and
South African federations. In each case Egerton provides background historical matter followed by useful, heavily annotated, copies of the principal
constitutional acts. Egerton deliberately excludes New Zealand from his study with the argument that “the shadowy kind of federation adumbrated [there]
by the establishement of the six {sic.} Provinces can hardly take rank among federal Governments ….”)
