and activities. Despite its sometime shrill tone, the book is a repository of an enormous number of useful facts. With particular reference to British
India, it provides on pp. 350-376 a comprehensive and in depth history of the British East India Company during its first 230 years. While, given its
source, the narrative dwells on the less savory aspects of Company rule in India, it neverless appears in the main to be factual and provides a host of
details difficult to unearth elsewhere.)
