1704, Abridgment of the laws in use in H.M. plantations
Anon. — An Abridgement of the Laws in Force and Use (1704) in Her Majesty's plantations; (Viz,) of Virginia, Jamaica, Barbadoes, Maryland,
New-England, New-York, Carolina, &c.; Digested under proper heads in the method of Mr. Wingate, and of Mr. Washington's abridgements n.a.,
(2)+1–284+1–80+65–71+1–100+285–304p, 8vo, London, printed for J. Nicholson, etc., 1704. (The odd page number sequences that appear between pages 284 & 285 are given to
pages which cover respectively Maryland 1–80+65–71}, and New England {1–100}. Despite this aberration, there are no separate title pages for these
sections and, as to subject matter and similarity of treatment, they fall within what appears to be the logical order of the book. It would be easiest to
assume that what has happened here is merely a bad case of mis-pagination, although it is also possible that the Maryland and New England sections were
printed from the plates of an unrelated book. Even the latter option does not explain the pages sequence of 1–80+65–71 for Maryland.) The laws are
listed in separate, alphabetical order under a number of jurisdictions. An appendix at the end of the book listed various acts from New York and New
England, including a number of laws dealing with ministerial and church matters. (Second copy was digitized from a microfilm copy of title originally
held by the Harvard Law Library in Cambridge, Massachusetts).
