Description and Holding Information
Colonial Laws, Law re. the Colonies, Tarring, 1893
2nd ed., xxiii+478p, 1893. (By the time of its second edition, Tarring’s little text had evolved into a highly scholarly, densely annotated, major
guide to the English statutes and cases relating to the colonies. Main categories of coverage are: the colonial executive and council, the legislative
power, the judiciary and bar, appeals from the colonies, and the imperial statutes relative to the colonies. The work also contains useful descriptions
of the composition of the legislative councils in Newfoundland, Australasia, and British southern Africa as of 1893. References to this edition of
Tarring’s work appear elsewhere in this text where relevant.)
