Baldwin, 1840-1927, was a distinguished jurist, law professor, author of significant texts in both law and history, jurist, and politician. Among many civic
offices held, he served as both Governor and Chief Justice of the Supreme Court in Connecticut. He was also Director of the Bureau of Comparative Law
of the American Bar Association, and President at different times of the American Association of Law Schools, the American Historical Association,
the American Political Science Association, and the International Law Association. One of his signature accomplishments on the legal side was as a
principal actor in the revival of the Yale Law School between 1869-1919; during which years it rose from third tier rank to the leadership position it
