Description and Holding Information
Wheaton, Elements of Intl' Law, 1889, 3rd Eng.Ed.
Elements of international law; By Henry Wheaton (1785-1848); Third English edition, edited with notes, and an appendix of statutes and treaties,
bringing the work down to the present time: by A.C. (Alexander Charles) Boyd (b. 1852), xx+846p, London, Stevens and Sons, Ltd., 1889. (A table of
contents starts on p. ix; an index on p. 815. The chronology of “editions” of Wheaton’s work, English or otherwise, is compendious and confusing. Despite
what is stated in the title, this is at least the fifth edition of Wheaton to have been published in London since his first edition was published in both
Philadelphia and London in 1836. Some, but not all parts of the story can be gleaned from the “Preface to the First English Edition” found on pp.
vi-viii in the present text. The second edition of Wheaton’s work published in London and edited by Boyd appeared in 1880.)
