Report on the British Honduras constitutional conference, held in London in July, 1963: n.a., 10p., Cmnd. 2124, London, HMSO, 1963. (The evolution to independence in British Honduras took a bit longer than for most of the British colonies. A conference held in London in 1960 adopted a ministerial form of internal self-government for the colony. Another constitutional conference was held in London in 1963, resulting in yet another new constitution, introduced in 1964. This constitution implemented the final steps towards internal self-government. In anticipation of impending independence, the colony adopted the name of Belize effective June 1, 1973. However, the Belizeans’ desire for full independence was delayed within the United Nations by a lingering territorial dispute with Guatemala. That problem having been finally patched over, on 21 September 1981, Belize, Great Britain’s last colony on the American mainland, achieved independence within the Commonwealth.)
