History of Samoa: by Robert Mackenzie Watson, 147p, Wellington, N.A., Whitcombe and Tombs, 1918. Afer an introductory chapter and a short history up to 1830, the book deals principally with events from 1830-1917. Written from a British point of view, the author discusses the fate of Samoa in the hands of the three major powers: Great Britain, Germany and the U.S. The author's conclusion is that if Britain cannot retain its hold on Samoa, it would be far better to relinquish in favor of the U.S. than in favor of Germany. A color map is included at end indicating American Samoa and the part under British occupation. A table of contents is found on p.7.
