Description and Holding Information
1933, Compiled Laws
rev. ed., prep. by Robert Harry Drayton, Vol. 1–3, London, Waterlow & Sons, GovPr, 1934, (Vols. 1–2 contain the ordinances in force, arranged in
subject order. Vol. 3 covers imperial acts, royal instructions, orders, proclamations and rules. Each volume contains a duplicate index to the whole. The
revision covers only British legislation. No attempt is made to summarize the Ottoman law which might still remain in force subject to the provisions
of Article 46 of the Palestine Order-in-Council, 1922. This revision was issued also in Arabic and Hebrew translations. That created a problem as
follows. The chapters in the vernacular editions are printed in the same numerical order established by the chapter numbers in the English text, with the
result that, in the translated editions the ordinances do not appear in the vernacular order of their short titles. In order to assist persons using
the vernacular texts, two tables appear in Vol. 1 of both the Arabic and Hebrew editions: The first shows the vernacular titles in the vernacular
alphabetical order and their chapter numbers according to the arrangement in the English text. The second shows the same chapter numbers in their numerical
order along with the vernacular titles.)
