Description and Holding Information
Tibet & the Rule of Law, 1959.
The question of Tibet and the rule of law: n.a., V+208p, Geneva, International Commission of Jurists, 1959. (Of particular interest is the inclusion
of the full texts of Sino-British diplomatic conventions {pp. 105-142} dating back to 1890 whereby Great Britain recognized Chinese “suzerainty, not
sovereignty, over Tibet”, while clinging to the hope that Tibet would be granted a measure of local autonomy. Great Britain’s claim to a role in the
equation stemmed, both from the fact that by its dominion over India it stood as Tibet’s other Great Neighbor, and from its own claim to “suzerainty,
not sovereignty” over Sikkim. See also the Commission’s report China, Tibet and the People’s Republic, 1960, also offered on this site.)
