Description and Holding Information
1966, St. Kitts/Nevis/Anguilla Con-Con. Rpt.
Report of the St. Kitts/Nevis/Anguilla constitutional conference, 1966: n.a., 27p, Cmnd. 3031, London, HMSO, 1966. (After the breakup of the Leeward
Islands Colony in 1957, and the failure of the short-lived Federation of the West Indies in 1962, the presidency of St. Kitts/Nevis/Anguilla was
granted self-governing, association status with the U.K; the latter retaining responsibility for defense and external affairs. Anguilla, resenting its
continued dependence upon and perceived domination by St. Christopher, formally seceded from the federation on 19 December 1980. Thereafter St. Kitts and
Nevis, as a unit but without Anguilla, proceeded to negotiate towards full independence within the Commonwealth under the official name of the
Federation of St. Kitts and Nevis. This came on 19 September 1983. Materials for Anguilla after 1980 are offered on this site under the rubric of
“Anguilla.”)
