1964, Fed. of South Arabia, Conf. Rpt.
Colonial Office; Federation of South Arabia, conference report: n.a., 7p, Cmnd. 2414, London, HMSO, July 1964. (A considerable measure of
self-government was introduced into the Colony of Aden in 1962. In the meantime, in 1959 six of the smaller areas governed by tribal rulers as British
protectorates were joined into a federation, which three years later was formally established as the Federation of Arab Amirates {sic.} of the South. Aden was
induced to join the federation in 1964, albeit with special status. This conference was held by members of the Federation under British auspices in an
attempt to democratize the constitution of the federation to assuage the more liberal sentiments of the residents of cosmopolitan Aden, with its
partially democratic society and modern economy as compared to the tribal societies and feudal economies of the other protectorate territories.)
