Governor's Reports on Administration of Sudan
|
|
Report on the administration of the Sudan for the years ____: 1939/41 to 1951/52, London, HMSO, 1941-. (Sudan was administered by Great Britain under the fiction of a condominium, dating to an Anglo-Egyptian agreement signed 19 Jan. 1899. In practice, however, the British influence was paramount. After World War II, when Great Britain began to extricate itself from its colonies, the question of Egyptian sovereignty in Sudan remained a constant source of irritation. The British managed to keep the two jurisdictions separate until 1951, when Egypt unilaterally bestowed a new constitution on Sudan that would have perpetuated Egyptian claims. Nevertheless, the British managed to steer Sudan to actual independence by 1956. As of March 2011, LLMC’s run of these periodic reports contained reports for the following periods: 1939/41, ‘42/44, ’46, ’47, ’48, ’49, ‘50/51, ‘51/52. The loan or gift of gap fillers is earnestly solicited.)
