the Ottoman Empire of pre-war times. The author has translated directly from the Turkish text, while providing a digest of his own for each section. The
work covers merchants and books of merchants, companies, commission agents, bills of exchange, promissory notes, cheques, bankruptcy, assurance and
rate of interest. Hooper served as a British judge in the Iraqi Service. At the time of this work’s publication, he was President of the Court of First
Instance in Basrah.)
